About this event
Come out for a full-day of Driver Skills on Saturday, Feb 22nd at Pacific Raceways
This one-day event teaches car control skills to teens and adults alike, to street driving beginners and seasoned track drivers alike. Drivers will learn how their car feels at (or near) the limits of traction and how to control the car in those situations. The skills learned can help you be a safer driver in inclement weather and other unexpected times during your daily commute. Experienced instructors will help you through the process and make you feel comfortable along the way while pushing you to find a new limit while you learn how it feels from behind the wheel.
Teens and parents are encouraged to attend together as it becomes a fantastic bonding experience. Most importantly the process is FUN! You will leave with sore cheeks from smiling so hard.
Come out and see how to make your new or old vehicle work in challenging conditions. All car brands are welcome. PCA PNWR members are invited. Your PCA PNWR Driver Skills team will be there as instructors and helping behind the scenes. Entry for teens is easier than PCA Driver Skills events. Drivers with only a Learners Permit can attend. Minors (under 18 years old) can attend with a guardian, without needing a sponsoring PCA member.
Working 1:1 with our instructors, students rotate in small groups through the following educational segments:
- Ground school (classroom)
- Slalom
- Wet skidpad
- Threshold braking and accident avoidance
- Figure 8
- Autocross
None of the segments involve competition. Instead, you work 1:1 with our instructors at a pace appropriate for your experience and comfort level. Together, the segments improve your ability to look ahead, place the car precisely, control weight transfer, steer with the throttle, and brake effectively.
Run groups are small, which means that wait time between runs is minimal. At the end of the primary sessions, students are encouraged to apply the lessons of the day in an optional segment on a large maneuvering course.
The Driver Skills participation fee is $170, including a hot lunch. Teens get a $70 discount. For additional information, visit the Driver Skills area of the PNWR website, and don’t miss our FAQ page.
